Do Fake Plants Look Tacky?

Natural Shapes and Styling

Styling large artificial plants is essential to make them look realistic. Make sure they have a natural and asymmetrical shape. If you choose a palm tree, adjust the leaves so that they have a natural and graceful droop. It might be useful to have a reference photo of a real plant on hand when styling the plant.

Realistic Bases

It’s a good idea to “plant” large artificial plants in nice, large pots, not only for aesthetics, but also to make them look real. After all, real plants can’t survive in those tiny pots, right? Also, check the base of the plant – are the stems just sticking out of the base? Do they need soil because they’re fake? Cover the base with dirt and moss to make your large plants look realistic. Look at the vein patterns - make sure they are not simply printed on, but embossed. Also, check the undersides of the leaves, as they can be just as obvious as the tops in large artificial plants.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest drawbacks of artificial plants is their trunks. No matter how detailed the leaves are, if the trunk isn't exactly like the real thing, your plant will look terrible.
