Do Fake Flowers Look Real?

If there's one thing we want from artificial flowers, it's that they look as real as possible. After all these years, we know everything about artificial flowers and all the little tips and tricks to make them look their best.

How to Make Fake Flowers Look Real

1. Compare to Real Flowers

Before you rush to buy flowers, research real flowers first. Pay attention to the shape of the flower and check the texture of the stem. Including the shape of the leaves and what the inside of the flower looks like? Only then can you make artificial flowers more like real flowers.
By comparing fake flowers to real ones and carefully checking all photos, you can narrow down your choices to the most realistic options so that you're one step ahead before you even buy flowers.

2. Choose Quality Flowers

Once you know what you want, you can steer clear of any less realistic options that give fake flowers a bad name.

Quality artificial flowers will use innovative materials to make them more realistic. Fake lilies and roses may use latex to give them soft petals that feel real. Artificial poppies should have soft stems and tiny hairs, just like real flowers. Fake sunflowers should have a detailed center and lots of tiny disc-shaped petals.

3. Arrange your flowers

Arranging artificial leaves and gently bending the stems will help you create the look of artificial plants and flowers. An easy way to get started is to use photos of the real thing as a guide.
A tip that applies to any arrangement is to not make it look too perfect. Natural flowers aren't perfect and always have small imperfections, so allowing some imperfections in artificial flowers only adds to their realism. Anything absolutely perfect will only arouse suspicion.

4. Remove any creases

Occasionally when arranging your flowers, you may notice small creases in the leaves. This is just a side effect of the secure packaging during shipping, and you should be able to remove them. To do this, coax them out by bending the leaf over the fold and gently rolling it with your fingers.

You may find that carefully ironing the leaves over a low flame under a cloth helps to smooth out any creases, but you need to be careful not to damage the leaves.

5. Trim the flower stems

In most cases, you will need to trim the flower stems to fit your vase. Also, it helps them look more real. You can do this by using a sturdy pair of wire cutters to get through the inner wire. Simply measure your vase and compare it to your flowers. Then cut off the excess length.

6. Hide the Fake Flower Stems

There are several reasons to hide fake flower stems. One is that you don’t believe the stems look very realistic, another is that you decide not to use water in the vase. This sounds simple, but it depends on whether you need to find some decorative beads or pebbles to fill the bottom of the vase to hide the fact that there is no water.

7. Try to scent your fake flowers

By appealing to different senses, you can make your flowers look, feel and even smell real. Fake flowers will not have a natural floral scent, which means that they will not pass the "smell test" if there are particularly curious visitors.

8. Use seasonal flowers

Tulips in July will give you away! Instead, try changing some of your floral arrangements throughout the year to keep them consistent with the seasons and make your artificial flowers look real.

9. Mix with real flowers

You don’t have to choose one or the other, we believe that real plants and artificial plants can coexist harmoniously. When natural flowers begin to fade, mixing real flowers with artificial ones can add extra color, and if fake flowers are surrounded by real flowers, they will look more realistic.

10. Clean Fake Flowers

A layer of dust will show that your flowers have been there for a while and are fake! For waxy leaves and flowers, use a damp cloth to remove any dirt. For intricate silk flowers, try using a hair dryer or paintbrush to clean all the little creases.
